It was a lovely surprise today when I walked into the Gaffa store & spied one of your single bird rings in silver(that I have been admiring for quite sometime now via my computer screen.)sitting quietly inside the display case.Your little wearable sculpture looks even lovlier now that it has come to life & is currently dancing across my keyboard.
Momoko Hatano Born in Tokyo 1984. Based in Sydney, Australia. Artist, jewellery designer/maker.
In 2006 I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from COFA, University of New South Wales, majoring in Drawing/Painting.
Following my degree I began working at a jewellery workshop for a Sydney based design company. There I furthered my skills in metal working and silver smithing and was exposed to an incredibly creative community and atmosphere. This experience inspired me to design and make my own silver jewellery and eventually decided to launch my own label in 2009. Drawing has been a constance in my life and is a practice that I still continue and show in various exhibitions. I don't think I would have began jewellery making if I wasn't a drawer first. My jewellery and drawings are informed by one another. They are inextricably bound through their methodologies as they both demand patience, eye for detail, craftsmanship and a lot of love!
On this site you can view my most recent jewellery collections, one off pieces, experimental wearables as well as exhibition and commission works of my drawings.
